Through reflection you connect current experiences and observations with your prior knowledge and references. This connection or flash of awareness can often be transcendent. In order to portray multiple concepts in a two-dimensional format I introduce layers of imagery suggesting references or memories, subliminal or conscious, some obscured and some emerging to the surface. Like fleeting thoughts there is a constant dance occurring, one image initiates another.

Many of these Reflection Portraits are of children as they are the promise of the future. The work has evolved to include more layers and imagery suggesting subliminal messages, and societal influences they must navigate to form their personality and perspective on life. Born in the 21st Century, Generation Alpha kids have lived through a worldwide pandemic, mass shootings, war, unchecked fires, drought, floods, animal extinctions and anxiety for the survival of the earth itself. All hope rests upon their tiny shoulders but I remain optimistic that they are up for the challenge.
